I hope everyone had a good time on Friday and caught some fireworks and some time off with friends and family. The big piece of news from the last week was the passage of the so-called Big Beautiful Bill. I’m not interested in becoming a newly minted Big Beautiful Bill expert and doing a deep dive on everything in it, but I think it’s safe to say that there were certain areas that they didn’t do enough and others where they did too much. I was talking to a family member who is involved in healthcare/insurance, and he said that they will have several different things to deal with, but I’m curious to see if the bill will be a big deal, or if it is something that will be forgotten in a month for most market participants.

Doug Casey’s Take - The Big Beautiful Bill

I watched this one yesterday, and they covered several different aspects of what’s in the bill. Doug Casey is always entertaining, and this podcast was no exception. They talked about farm subsidies and agriculture (not just in the US), and the various buckets of wasteful spending in the bill. They also covered industrial policy and other parts of Trump’s agenda. On the geopolitical side, Ukraine was a focus, and how that conflict might wrap up as the US pulls back. They mention some of the European factions that seem to be pushing to keep the conflict going, and what it means for NATO. If you like “conspiracy theories”, they also talked about chemtrails and a couple other things that aren’t widely discussed. Overall it was a a broad range of topics and is worth a listen if you have the time.

MacroVoices w/ Larry McDonald

For readers looking for a video focused specifically on markets, this one is worth watching. They discuss where markets might be headed, capital rotations, and why he likes commodities. Whether it’s precious metals (including platinum), oil and oil services, or agricultural commodities, they covered different areas that look like they could be setup for a big move. That includes equities in those sectors, but they go into which areas they find most attractive right now. I know the host loves to talk about uranium, but McDonald likes some of the other areas of the commodity universe right now.
