Today is one of my favorite holidays of the year. For me, it’s a reminder to think about the great men that are responsible for building the foundation for the country we have today. The country’s not perfect (never has been and never will be), but there’s nowhere I would rather be. For all of the things that frustrate me about America today, I still think the country has brighter days ahead over the next couple decades. I just think the next couple years could be a bumpy ride. For all the Americans, I hope you have something fun planned for today with family or friends. It’s hard to go wrong with good food, good times, and fireworks. Just don’t blow off any fingers.
Getting back to business, I wanted to write a quick update on what I have in the can for the next couple months. I finally made up my mind on making a couple trades in coming weeks, so I’ll have a couple stock deep dives out for you guys over the next couple weeks, as well as updated portfolio weights. I try to trade as little as possible, but as always, it comes down to opportunity cost. There are several new ideas that I want to buy, and one existing holding I want to add to more than I want to hang on to a couple things currently in the portfolio. I should have things fully repositioned in the next couple weeks before I hit the road, but I’ll keep everyone updated.
On The Road Again
I’ll be traveling from the middle of July until the end of the month, and I’m also planning on doing the Rim to Rim hike in the Grand Canyon in early August. It’s going to be a busy couple of months, but I’ll be working to get a bunch of podcasts recorded to release while I’m on the road. When I get back, I’ll be writing a (slightly late) mid year update on some of the things I talked about in one of my first posts of the year, including the big picture for markets, an update on the election, and some of the geopolitical things to watch for the rest of 2024.
I still think 2024 is the year that sets the table for the rest of the decade and the next six months are going to be very interesting to watch. Someone once said that there are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happens. I think we could be in one of those periods where decades happen. Either way, I’m curious to see how the second half of 2024 plays out. I think it’s more likely than not that we will see some fireworks.
Too dangerous (rim to rim) in August. I suggest doing one of the fearsome 4. Four passes in the Sierra Nevada. Sawmill, Shepherds,. I forgot the other 2. They all go up 6 to 7000 feet. The good news is you can avoid the heat of the day by starting early and you can climb up to shade.
No one is on those trails because of their reputation!
I think they would be less dangerous in August than rim to rim. Too hot and still in the monsoon season. October would be a better choice.
Also go see the Palisades. See the largest glacier in Sierra before its gone.
One more thing. In both Sierra Nevada and Grand Canyon air quality may be a
consideration. Fire season is just getting statrted!! Good luck. You must be in great shape! Easier when you are young!
