The H-1B Bomb Goes Off On Twitter & Two Videos To Watch By Year End
I hope everyone had a good time last week with Christmas with friends and family. I was able to stay off Twitter for a couple days, but when I fired it up a couple days ago I was expecting a load of tweets about Merry Christmas, Happy New Year’s, all that stuff. Instead, Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk decided that Christmas Day was the perfect time to poke the bear on immigration. If you spent any time on Twitter in the last couple days, I’m sure that the H-1B immigration discourse leaked onto your page, but the negative reaction shows that they touched a nerve.
I’m fine if those two want to cut and slash government agencies with DOGE, but they would not be my first choice for influencing US immigration policy (for now obvious reasons). It was interesting to see that some people view the US as an economic zone with a set of values, instead of a nation with a culture, a heritage, and a homeland. I could rant on immigration for a long time, but I’ll be giving the topic the time it deserves in my 2025 post later this week. Before everyone gets to read that, I do have a couple videos for you to start your week. The first video on the macro big picture, and the second one has different ideas and commodities themes for from fund managers. Both will give viewers food for thought on where things might be headed in 2025.
The Julia La Roche Show w/ Luke Gromen
This one was one of my favorites this week, and I try to watch Luke Gromen whenever he shows up on the podcast circuity. There’s always a couple nuggets from each podcast he is on, and this one focused on what might be on the horizon was interesting. In my opinion, he’s one of the best at laying out the big picture as he sees it. He is also one of the best at talking about the order of operations or the potential sticking points for the path forward as far as interest rates, inflation, and debt levels. He is very confident that the dollar will be devalued (relative to other fiat currencies) at some point in 2025. He also talks about his views on gold, bitcoin, long bonds, and his opinion on other asset classes looking forward.
Money of Mine (Part 1 & 2): 2025 Bets
This was another one of my favorites from last week. If you want a couple commodities ideas from different fund managers, this one’s for you. The topics ranged from single stocks to macro themes. It was a quick hit format where they asked all of the guest the series of questions below.
What is your highest conviction idea or prediction for 2025?
What are your non-consensus ideas or predictions for 2025?
What are the best and worst performing commodities of 2025?
