Video & Podcast Of The Week
Interesting Events From The Last Week, Young Generations Opting Out & A Breakdown Of Oil, Gold, and Copper
It’s been a busy week for markets and geopolitics, but I think this summer is going to interesting on a variety of fronts. This week I have an interesting video on younger generations opting out, and a podcast taking a look at oil, gold, copper. Oil has been an area of focus for a while, but there are a couple stocks on the watchlist in the gold and copper sector. Borr Drilling BORR 0.00%↑ gave us good news with their earnings report, and I’ll be writing an update on the offshore sector later this week. On the geopolitical front, the thing that stood out was China’s military drill surrounding Taiwan. We will see if anything comes of it, but it’s one of three problem areas for the West.
Ukraine and the Middle East are the other two, and I think they will be more important to watch moving forward. That could change, but I think those are more likely to be an issue near term. On of the things that stood out from Eastern Europe, besides advances by the Russians in the northern part of Ukraine, were the tactical nuke exercises by Russia. I’m hoping things don’t spiral out of control, but Ukraine and the situation with Israel and Palestine look like powder kegs to me.
Speaking of the Middle East, Israel has continued to make friends with their recent actions, with the ICC issuing arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, along with a couple Hamas leaders. I don’t know how it will develop, but it’s interesting to watch the reaction from US politicians. Another thing worth mentioning is what happened with the floating pier in Gaza. I have heard predictions that something like this could happen from people that are more familiar with the terrain and ocean conditions there, so it’s not all that surprising. The $320M pier broke off and ended up on the beach. Multiple US ships ended up on the beach during the recovery efforts.
Thoughtful Money w/ Nicholas Eberstadt
This was a thought provoking video on what is going on with younger generations. Fewer people working, more pharmaceutical addiction, and weaker economic prospects for younger generations are all something to watch for. It’s not a topic that gets much play in the mainstream media, but there are a lot of reasons that this could have an impact on the US economy moving forward. Most people aren’t ready to have some of these tough conversations to address the problems and look for potential solutions, but eventually we are going to have do something about it.
C.O.B. Tuesday w/ Max Layton
I have started to do some digging on a couple stocks in the copper and gold sector, and this video was an interesting breakdown on what is going on there. They talk about short-term movements and long-term trends worth watching for those two sectors. They also discuss the oil markets and what is going on there. The biggest thing to watch for copper in my opinion is what is going on with the supply side, and the supply deficit that is basically baked in at this point. We will see if the copper pullback continues, but it’s a very interesting setup for long-term investors.
Enjoy reading these weekly summaries 👏
Thanks BG, and I'm really enjoying your substack content. I found your page from the interview with Trader Ferg.
Speaking of copper, Jeff Currie did a solid interview just the other day on it and some commentary on oil & gas.
