Matt Warder Weighs In On Recent Events In The Coal Sector & How Today's Market Cycles Compare To Previous Cycles
I hope everyone had a good time this weekend. I still have a bit of a sunburn but I’m looking forward to the next couple weeks. I’m curious to see what happens with the various conflicts around the world in the second half of this year, but Mark Wauck’s recent update is a good summary of what has happened recently on the geopolitical stage. I’m going to try to get him on the podcast when I get back in August because I think we would have a lot to talk about.
The video this week talks about what has been going on in the coal sector lately, and what might be in store for potential investments in the sector. This week’s podcast talks about market cycles and how these things happen over and over.
History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Money of Mine w/ Matt Warder
This was a good update on the whole coal sector after some of the recent events. They talk about the Grosvenor and Longview mine fires and Matt’s views on the sector. He talks about his thoughts on the structural price bottom for met coal, and natural gas prices putting a ceiling on thermal coal prices. Because every investor in coal is interested in the dividends vs. buybacks debate (we will probably still be debating this two or three years from now), Matt gives his thoughts on that as well as what he thinks about some of the stocks in the sector. He also talks about the majors selling off their coal assets and some of the consolidation we could see and what M&A might look like moving forward. Just like any Matt Warder appearance on a podcast or YouTube video, it’s a must watch for anyone interested in or invested in the coal sector.

As you might have guessed, the guest on this podcast is anonymous. They talk about the commodities cycle of the 2000s and some of the parallels to what we see today in the technology industry and semiconductors. All of these things move in cycles and I don’t think artificial intelligence and semiconductors will be an exception to the rule. They also cover private equity, venture capital, and other asset classes that could be interesting to watch in coming years. It’s worth a listen for a big picture on market cycles, investments, and potential landmines for forward returns.
