Video & Podcast Of The Week
Geopolitical Turmoil, A Look At Coal, Uranium (NexGen), And Gold & A Podcast On The Current Political Environment
I don’t have a ton of time, so I’m going to go with a short bullet point list of things that caught my eye over the last week. By the time this gets posted, I should be starting up the last day of the Rim to Rim hike in the Grand Canyon, but below are some of the things that happened in the last week that I found interesting.
The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh while he was in Tehran.
The US deploying 12 warships to the Middle East (YouTube link / Twitter).
Geopolitical risk does not an oil bull thesis make, but it’s worth keeping an eye on what is going on in the world. There are more important factors for long-term oil prices in my opinion, but I think it’s foolish to ignore the continued deterioration of the situation in Ukraine as well as what is going on in the Middle East. The one liner is that geopolitical risk doesn’t matter until it does. If that happens I don’t think oil will stay in the $70-90 range, and it seems like things are accelerating as we close in on three months to the US election. I have this feeling in my gut that something big is coming by the end of this year, and I hope I’m wrong. I’ll be writing a bit more about that with my post later this week.
Money of Mine w/ Warren Irwin
This was my favorite video of the last week. It touches on several different commodities of interest, including coal, uranium, and gold. They talk about Glencore stealing Teck’s coal assets and Warren’s thoughts on a Glencore coal spinoff. He also talks about why met coal is one of the most attractive commodities for a long term investor. One of the things that has been interesting to watch lately is uranium, and Warren explains why he isn’t as excited about the uranium sector anymore. He takes a dump all over NexGen NXE 0.00%↑ management for their sponsoring activity (F1 and hockey) and the recent equity raise. Despite their top tier deposit, management seems to be off the reservation on that one (sorry in advance to anyone who might own shares). They also talk about Nickel and opportunities in the gold sector.
Know Your Risk Radio w/ Demitri Kofinas
This was a look at the upcoming election, as well as a look at how the political environment has taken a turn for the worse over the last two decades. I don’t agree with all of their takes, but it was a thought provoking back and forth on where we are today. They also discuss markets a bit, but the main focus is politics and what might happen in the run to the election this year. After the recent assassination attempt on Trump, readers might find this one interesting.
