Podcast & Video Of The Week
Happy Labor Day, Financial Ties Between Ukraine and Britain & A Look At Commodities And Current Events
I’ll keep it short and sweet today, and I hope everyone has had a good long weekend. I think I’ll be making a couple small trades later this week, but I wanted to give readers a podcast and a video to check out for Labor Day. I had some time to think over the last couple days and my discussion with PauloMacro crystallized some thoughts on the platinum miners. Later this week, I should finally have the time to write about it. It’s still a very small position in the portfolio, but I think platinum is the most interesting subsector of the metals space. I’m mentioning it today because the platinum miners had a nice flush on Friday, and if you have longer time horizon I think it’s an interesting pond to be fishing in.
Gold Goats n’ Guns w/ Alex Krainer
This podcast was one of my favorites of the week. It’s a follow up to Alex Krainer’s recent piece on some of the things that might be in store Britain and their financial system. The post below provides a timeline of Ukraine and what he calls a “slow motion trainwreck.”
It’s worth reading before listening to the podcast, but I think it’s an interesting lens to use on the conflict in Ukraine. They have a couple detours, but it connects some of the dots between Britain and Ukraine, and the stuff they discuss in the podcast is worth keeping an eye on. If Alex is right, we could see some fireworks in Europe sooner rather than later.
John Polomny’s Weekly Review
John’s weekly updates are some of my favorite videos to watch each week. You get a summary of the economy, rates, what’s going on with different commodities, with a side of political heat at the end (which is honestly my favorite part). This week he covered interest rates and focused on gold and coal, as well as highlighting just how cheap the whole commodities sector is. He also spent some time on current events, US sanctions, and other things that are worth keeping an eye on for investors.
Love these little updates to see what I have missed during the week.
